PARDS SUMMER CAMPS

Come join us at summer camp!
PARDS Summer Camps provide an inclusive environment where children and youth of all abilities are encouraged and supported to identify and build on their own strengths as well as recognize and appreciate the strengths of others.
Our youth day camp is full of fun and friendship. It is also full of all kinds of learning and personal-discovery hidden within the games, activities and adventures. Almost all of PARDS’ programs are incorporated into the day camps. It’s a fantastic way to learn the basics of horse care, riding, horsemanship, and much more. Youth day camp is open to children between the ages of 6 (as of January 1 of camp year) and 14, of all abilities. Campers spend each day practicing and learning the basics of horse care and horsemanship through activities, lessons and hands-on learning. Youth Leadership activities are also incorporated into the daily camp schedule along with games, group activities and crafts.
Camps run Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Drop off time is no earlier than 8:45 with pick up time no later than 4:30
We also offer a Little Pony Motricity Camp as well as an
Adult Therapeutic Skills Camp

Bryce Fuller
Bryce is an energetic, 3 year old boy who comes twice a week to participate in the PARDS Little Pony Motricity and therapeutic riding programs.
The Little Pony Motricity program gives Bryce the beginning steps in horse care, building comfort and confidence around horses as well as learning cooperation working as a team with another young rider.
Bryce's family saw the enjoyment and growth in his confidence and riding skill so decided to give him a second riding experience that would also work towards his therapeutic goals and registered him for therapeutic riding.
First and foremost Bryce would like everyone to know that he and Encana like to go fast and that they are best friends!
At his assessment, both therapeutic and riding goals were established. His long term goals are to learn riding skills, and to improve his expressive language. During his lessons we work on letter recognition using games and activities as in within the arena using the dressage letters and pictures, such as /m/, monkey and using words we use when riding ‘Walk on" and "Woah’, for example. These basic concepts create confidence in usage as they are repetitive by use when riding. Once the confidence is there, natural conversation skills can occur between Bryce and his instructor. Bryce's parents say they have noticed a difference in his attempts at conversing with others. Bryce is always telling a story to everyone in the barn and has a contagious smile.
During his assessment focusing, body awareness and control were discussed and goals were made. Games and activities incorporating focusing, listening to directions, balancing exercises, stretches identifying balance and spatial awareness help to develop good posture and balance which, along with therapeutic benefits, are all skills needed for riding.
We look forward to seeing Bryce's continuing progress!

Meet Laurie Prichuk

Laurie has been involved with PARDS for 6 years and began when her miniature ponies joined our program herd. Over the years we have had the great fortune to have Laurie lease more of her ponies to us, presently Tory who is in the cart program and Buttercup in the Public Riding program. Horses have been a part of Laurie's life since childhood. Her passion for horses shows in all aspects around the barn. Laurie is truly a jack of all trades here at PARDS; Laurie is a volunteer instructor for cart and therapeutic riding programs, she has put on driving clinics for our instructors, clips our horses, runs equipment in our yard and helps out everywhere she can. Laurie is always smiling, willing to lend a hand or some muscles and share her considerable knowledge. Laurie works for the city as a grader operator, so when she sees a job like feeding hay or clearing snow, if it involves a piece of equipment, she's on it!

PARDS has impacted Laurie by giving her confidence and further building her communication skills with a larger, diverse group of individuals. A memorable moment for Laurie has been having her student, Aly Keay, win overall High Point champion in the Equine Canada Para Dressage Video Competition Series.

Tory
Tory is an 11 year old chestnut, registered miniature horse. She is leased to us by one of our instructors, Laurie Prichuk and has been in the program for 3 years. Tory partners with our riders as a driving pony for our therapeutic cart driving lessons. Though she may be one of the smallest ponies that we have, she is definitely not one of the weakest. Tory is able to pull any of our riders and their carts around the arena with ease. Tory is a very quick pony so she is great for our intermediate and more advanced cart drivers who are working on speed control. Tory’s energetic personality makes her therapeutic cart lessons loads of fun and her springy trot with her mane and tail blowing around is a beautiful sight.
