Lesson Instructor:
The Instructor is under the direction of the Program Coordinator with access to, and the support of, the Executive Director.
This position has the following requirements:

• Ability to lead, volunteers and riders
• Ability to run safe, efficient and effective classes
• First Aid with CPR and AED or will complete
• Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Check
• Equine Canada Certification or working towards
• Canadian Therapeutic Riding (CanTRA) Certification or working towards
• Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, basic sign language
• Knowledge of disabilities and special needs and willingness to expand knowledge through research and professional development opportunities

Roles and Responsibilities:
You are responsible for the class you are instructing, you will ensure all safety rules are being met, the volunteers are working within guidelines and the clients are equipped with proper safety equipment. When not actively instructing, you are responsible to assist in the barn with lesson preparation, barn maintenance and the completion of rider progress reports for your lessons. This position will work with the Senior Instructor (lesson related) and Barn Coordinator (horse care and barn related).

• Create Lesson Plans based on individual client goals and capacity
• Set up arena based on Lesson Plan
• Instruct classes as scheduled
• Complete progress reports on current day clients
• Take down of arena at end of day
• Work with the volunteers required for classes including barn help
• Ensure horses are tacked properly prior to the lesson AND after riders have tacked
• Ensure all horses, tack and equipment are returned properly after classes
• When instructing evening classes you MUST stay at the PARDS facility until all volunteers and clients have left and make sure the building is closed up
• Work with riders parents/caregivers to set an attainable goal with the support of the Senior Instructor
• Other duties as required

Facility/Barn/Chore Personnel:

The Barn Personnel is responsible for the smooth operation of the barn, ensuring that all horses are properly cared for in accordance with the program and boarding schedules. This role is vital to maintaining a safe, clean, and organized environment for horses, volunteers, and staff. The Barn Personnel will also complete various duties within the facility and work under the direction of the Program Co-Ordinator ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and that safety rules are adhered to. Below is an outline only and this position may include other duties as required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure barn tasks are completed safely and effectively.
• Perform barn chores for the program barn and boarding barn, including cleaning, bedding, and preparing stalls.
• Complete/assist with repair and maintenance tasks as required.
• Turn horses in and out based on program and boarding schedules.
• Feed and grain horses according to the feeding schedule and individual care plans.
• Ensure water buckets are emptied, cleaned, and refilled daily.
• Sweep alleyways and general barn areas.
• Keep Program Coordinator informed of any horse health issues or behavioral changes.
• Report any required repairs or maintenance to the Programs Coordinator.
• Assist with any additional duties required to support lessons and facility operations.

Barn Support:

• Provide quality care to all boarded horses in cooperation with the Facility and Programs Coordinator.
• Turn out and assist with feeding, blanketing, and grooming of boarded horses.
• Clean stalls daily and perform manure picking in paddocks.
• Maintain water troughs and buckets by cleaning and refilling them.
• Assist with general grounds maintenance tasks, such as mowing, weeding, raking hay, and picking up garbage around the property.

Maintenance & Equipment Support:

• Assist with minor facility repairs as directed by the Program Coordinator (e.g., repairing fences, shelters, watering troughs).
• Utilize a variety of tools such as wheelbarrows, shovels, pitchforks, brooms, and equipment like a skid steer or tractor for grounds and barn maintenance.
• Ensure all tools are used safely and are maintained in proper working order.

General Duties:

• Be adaptable and ready to assist with various tasks across different areas of the facility.
• Maintain strong communication with the Executive Director, Program Coordinator, and other staff members.
• Stay up to date on the health and behavior of horses, reporting any changes or concerns immediately.
• Ensure a high level of cleanliness, safety, and organization at all times.

Required Qualifications:

• Strong communication skills.
• Attention to detail and ability to independently follow procedures and guidelines.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing tasks.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs and up to 80lbs.
• Knowledge of basic horse care and barn operations.
• Experience in facility maintenance or willingness to learn.

• Wheelbarrows, shovels, pitchforks, manure forks, push floor brooms, straw brooms, garbage barrels, feed tubs, squeegees, skid steer, tractor
• Hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, electric drills, shovels, rakes, hoes, quad, lawnmower, weed eater, and various gardening tools.
